The International English Language Testing System, or IELTS, has two modules, the Academic Module and the General Training Module. At Think, we offer exceptional preparation courses for the IELTS Academic Module. Students may be required to take this advanced English language test to attend university in an English-speaking country or for professional reasons. The exam takes approximately 3.5 hours and tests student competency in four key areas: listening, reading, writing, and speaking.
Jack R. Merchant, Ph.D., a Fulbright scholar with over 10 years experience in test prep, teaches all IELTS students. Our courses show students how to meet the challenges they will encounter on the IELTS with confidence. We build on students’ reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in ways specifically designed to improve their test scores. Students develop active reading skills through instruction that shows them how to decipher the main idea, purpose, tone, and structure of reading passages. Listening passages are taken apart and explained so that students know how to listen for correct answers. Students are taught how to organize their essays and how to explain their thoughts in writing with fluency. They are also given ample practice for the speaking portions of the exam through one-on-one dialogue with Dr. Merchant in our interactive classroom. At Think, we provide aspiring scholars and professionals tools and techniques that will improve their performance on each section of the IELTS.
Please note that because the IELTS is jointly managed by British and Australian organizations, it is not universally accepted by colleges and universities in the United States – students should make sure the schools they are applying to accept the IELTS prior to preparing for the exam.
