- Enhances public and private school math programs
- Designed for students who seek to hone their math skills, as well as for those who struggle in their math courses
- Introduces students to different ways of ‘doing’ math
- Utilizes an approach accessible to all learners
- Encourages active thinking, communication of mathematical ideas, and problem solving
- Develops the foundation students need to do more advanced math
Our math program for 7th and 8th grade students, as well as those taking algebra and geometry courses, is partially based on Dimensions Math, a Singapore Math program, which we use in concert with the math programs of the region’s public and private schools. The goal of these courses is to facilitate mathematical understanding by translating what can be abstract concepts into language that is easy to understand. We accomplish this by guiding individuals or small groups through each new mathematical concept in manageable steps. After students are introduced to a given concept, we take them through its application using varied methods of questioning. For example, students are guided through basic and more advanced application using mathematical notion, before applying the concept to real life situations and more advanced reasoning. Student knowledge of each concept is therefore reinforced repeatedly in multiple contexts. This approach empowers students to learn math effectively and independently.
